Karl Burke is hoping Laurens can thwart Aidan O’brien’s attempt at a 24th Group One victory of the year in today’s Bet365 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket.

O’brien, two Group One wins behind the record 25 in a calendar year set in the United States by the late Bobby Frankel in 2003, saddles Happily, Magical and September.

Laurens passed Dark Rose Angel in the final strides of the May Hill at Doncaster despite being caught flat-footed off a slow pace. Burke said: “She is a high-class filly. She’s a big unit but athletic and clean winded. What she does this year is a bonus. She has a high cruising speed and if something goes a million miles an hour, all the better.”
