Kane will stay at Spurs to light up new stadium

Harry Kane’s scan was delayed yesterday because of the heavy swelling on his right ankle but he still delivered positive news to Tottenham Hotspur fans by committing himself to the club into next season.

Real Madrid are among those clubs interested in Kane but, with Tottenham having repeatedly indicated that they will not sell this summer at any price, Kane is already looking forward to the prospect of scoring in the club’s new 62,000-capacity stadium.

“I remember sitting at White Hart Lane as a fan growing up and watching Tottenham play so to now be part of the team moving into this new stadium is exciting,” said Kane. “I can’t wait to see a load of fans inside and what that will look like. I can’t wait to be out there scoring some goals. To think we’re not that far away now is incredible.”

Tottenham also introduced their new season ticket prices yesterday for the stadium, with the most expensive ticket surpassing the current cost at Arsenal as the highest in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s adult season-tickets are currently ranged between £1,768 and £891 but the banding next season at Tottenham will be wider and start lower at £795 but then rise right up to £1,995.

Tottenham’s highest seasonticket price for this current one-off season at Wembley is £1,700. Compared to their former White Hart Lane home, the total number of Spurs season tickets will double next season to 42,000. Supporters’ representatives were meeting last night to consider their response to the new prices but had earlier urged the club to tread carefully.

Martin Cloake, co-chair of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, said: “You only have to look at attendances at Arsenal, where prices are among the most expensive in the country, to see the results of a short-term pricing policy.”

Kane was forced off against Bournemouth on Sunday after his right ankle was sandwiched as he collided with goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. Similar injuries to the same right ankle last season ruled him out for seven and four weeks.

Gareth Southgate announces his England squad on Thursday for preparatory World Cup matches against Holland and Italy while Tottenham have an FA Cup quarter-final against Swansea on Saturday and then face Chelsea on April 1 in a match that will have a huge bearing on whether they will finish in the top four. Kane appears likely to miss those matches but is said to be remaining upbeat.

There was still plenty of cutting edge for Tottenham on Sunday even after Son Heung-min moved into Kane’s more central position.

Although Son has been generally starting to the left, he was signed specifically for his versatility and he has now scored seven in his last four games. “We have many options – I can play striker, Fernando [Llorente] can play striker,” he said.
