COLORADO, 1981 I’d just arrived at Jack’s place in Aspen when it started snowing. I took a couple of shots of him indoors then we agreed to do one in the snow. He turned to the housekeeper, saying, ‘ Why don’t you cook this boy some pancakes and bacon – I’m just going to go out there and sit in the snow.’ It was very odd to sit at Jack Nicholson’s kitchen table, looking out the window, with him slowly getting covered, bit by bit, with snow. I got up a couple of times, because I felt guilty and asked him if I should come out. ‘Oh, I’m absolutely fine,’ he said. ‘Take your time.’
