Britain’s success in the men’s sprint events was inspired by an inflatable flamingo called Wendy.

Callum Skinner had the flamingo flown out to the Valencia training camp last month, and it became an unofficial mascot. It also featured in Phil Hindes’ training diary ‘vlogs’.

After Skinner and Jason Kenny qualified to face each other in last night’s individual sprint final, Hindes – the third of the sprint team – posted pictures on Twitter of both floating on Wendy in the hotel pool in Valencia with the words: “Boom! @JasonKenny107 and @CallumSkinner are in the sprint final together! #thepowerofwendy
