Standard Life pension delays

The Daily Telegraph - Your Money - - READERS’ LETTERS -

At last I have my pension money from Standard Life, my pension provider, but I remain unhappy at how difficult it was to get it and by the fact that there weremuddles. All this time, for example, it has said I hadn’t sent my declaration page when I know for certain I did. WD, EAST LOTHIAN

It understandably irked you that, even though your problem was resolved, you had been unjustly blamed for things having gone wrong. This had been about a pension pot worth £3,000 to £4,000.

Further to my involvement Standard Life looked through the file again and established that, despite telling you otherwise, it had received your declaration page at the outset just as you had said.

It has apologised for failing to identify this before. It has compared the value that you received for your pension and what it was on the date it believes the payment should have been made.

In fact it was higher when the payment was actually processed so, for all the irritations, you benefited. Although you were not financially disadvantaged by its delay, Standard Life recognises it caused trouble and upset. For this it is paying an additional £350.
