Baume & Mercier lines up an Indian summer
Following its collaboration with Las Vegas-based sports car icon Shelby American, Baume & Mercier has launched a partnership with the historic Indian Motorcycle Company.
America’s oldest motorcycle manufacturer, Indian’s most famous chapter was the achievement of the late Burt Munro, who set a sub-1,000cc motorcycle speed record on a 47-year-old Indian at Bonneville Salt Flats 50 years ago. The first watch to have emerged, a version of the brand’s sporty Clifton Club chronograph, takes its look from that of Munro’s heavily-adapted bike, with a bright red strap and “35” – Munro's lucky number – in a yellow circle on the dial.
A second version takes a rather more understated stance, with a black/grey look and partially openworked dial – its aesthetic inspired by the old-school look of Indian’s bikes. Both are £3,250. Above, the Clifton Club chronograph; inspired by the Indian motorbike of Burt Munro, below
