Sorry – you’ve been Trumped, Elton!
Sir Elton John has become the latest star to slam Donald Trump, announcing that he had not given the Republican candidate permission to use his song
Rocket Man at political rallies. He joins a long list of artistes miffed that Trump has had the temerity to play their music without asking first: Adele, REM, Neil Young…
Honestly, who do these people think they are? As long as the presidential candidate is paying money to PRs for Music to use the songs, I don’t see what the problem is. I don’t much like Donald Trump, but nor do I like multimillionaire singers trying to dictate who listens to their music. Do you remember when Johnny Marr announced that he “forbid” David Cameron to like The Smiths? It’s breathtaking, the hypocrisy of these Leftie-liberals who are basically advocating censorship. They should be grateful that anyone is listening to their music at all.
Plus, Sir Elton didn’t much mind Trump when he invited him to his Aids Foundation parties, presumably in the hope of a donation for the charity. “Being me is a bit like being a king,” the singer told the
Telegraph last week. Sir Elton and Trump – they’re not so different really, are they?
