Access to single market vital, says Hammond

-

Philip Hammond has said he wants the next prime minister to make continued access to the European single market the primary objective of withdrawal negotiations.

The Foreign Secretary said that it would be a “trade-off ” which must mean accepting limits on Britain’s ability to control immigration from the remaining 27 EU members. Mr Hammond told ITV1’s Peston on

Sunday that losing access to the single market would be “catastrophic”.
