Hawk with an eye for a fluffy TV microphone

-

There may be double trouble for the pigeons of Wimbledon this year after Rufus the hawk was given a sidekick, but the young apprentice is still learning after mistaking broadcasters’ sound booms for rabbits.

Rufus has been patrolling at the All England Lawn Tennis Club for nine years and this year another Harris hawk, named Pollux, has joined him.

Two-year-old Pollux is still in training and his owner, Imogen Davies, 29, admitted he isn’t “quite ready for the television”. “It’s important that we expose Pollux to that sort of environment when he’s very young.”
