Inquiry into deaths of carpenter and wife

- By Hayley Dixon

A CARPENTER and his wife have been found dead in their Suffolk home, it emerged yesterday as police launched an investigation.

The couple, who have been named locally as Richard Pitkin, 65, and his 58year-old wife, Sarah, were found at their £300,000 property in Stowmarket, Suffolk, just before 2pm on Sunday.

The deaths are being treated as “unexplained” and police said they were not looking for anyone else.

Neighbours said the couple had four children, two living at home and another two who had moved away to university. Mr Pitkin ran a carpentry business from the family home while his wife worked in a nearby charity shop.

Claims that two gunshots were heard before the couple were found dead were later denied by police, who said: “There is nothing to indicate that a firearm was involved in this incident.”

Postmortem results are expected today.
