SIR – I read with interest the obituary (April 27) of the remarkable cellist Olga Hegedus.

It occurred to me that other readers might share my pleasure in the appropriateness of her surname, which means “violinist” in Hungarian. This is especially apt, given that both her parents and both her sisters were violinists, and the fact that she would have been one too if her hands had not been thought to be too large.
