Watch this space
An exhibition opens tomorrow at the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow that ought to be greeted with more than ordinary enthusiasm. Its chief feature is the absence of any exhibits. This will be a treat for admirers of the architecture of David Hamilton, who in 1827 modelled in the Classical style the building the gallery occupies. They can see a little more of it uncluttered by installations crying “Look at me!” in the strident tones that modern art so often adopts. Sadly the curator will not let well alone, and contemplates tournaments of carpet bowls in the empty space or even Bounce and Rhyme for toddler habitués of gallery-going. A mystery about the exhibition remains. It is attributed to a Dutch artist, Marlie Mul, whose sole work is a notice “This Exhibition Has Been Cancelled” – which is not true.
