Bridesmaids’ dresses left behind

-

A COUPLE had to postpone their Greek island wedding after the bridesmaids were grounded at Heathrow airport amid the British Airways IT crash.

Laura Thomson and Sam Sciortino, from Woking, in Surrey, had planned to marry in Santorini yesterday.

But Ms Thomson’s brother and family – including three bridesmaids – waited at Heathrow for 13 hours on Saturday before leaving without their luggage.

They stayed at a hotel overnight before rearranging a flight with a different airline from Luton to Crete, with a connecting ferry to the island this moring, which should get them there in time for the hastily rearranged service.

But Marcia Thomson, Laura’s sister-in law, and her children, Chloe, 15, and 10-year-old Mia, are travelling without their prized bridesmaids dresses because their baggage had already been checked in with BA.

To make matters worse, the bride’s father and his wife arrived in Santorini without their suit and dress because of Gatwick’s baggage system failure on Thursday.

Marcia had planned to bring them replacements, but those are now stuck with their luggage at Heathrow.

“You couldn’t make it up,” she said. “I am just a shell of myself right now. We are absolutely shattered.” With the help of their wedding planner at Rocabella Santorini, Laura and Sam have rearranged their ceremony for 4pm today on the island. “They booked with British Airways because they thought it was a reliable company,” Ms Thomson ,told the BBC. “We feel so let down.”
