Urban dwellers craving nature

-

A huge proportion of city-dwellers do not feel that they spend enough time in nature, according to a poll.

The survey by the Wildlife Trusts of more than 2,400 people found that while many in urban areas have a strong affinity for nature, only 20 per cent felt they connect with it enough.

A high proportion of those questioned wanted to see more nature within cities. Just 21 per cent said that the last “wow” moment they had with nature was in their local city area, while 60 per cent of people’s most recent special moments with nature was from elsewhere, such as on TV, holidays and visits to the countryside.

Only 9 per cent had enjoyed visiting a wild place as part of their working day in the past week. It comes as the Wildlife Trusts launch their 30 Days Wild challenge, which encourages people to make connections with nature every day for 30 days. Samantha Herbert
