What happens next? Brexit talks could be delayed

EU officials suggested yesterday that Brexit talks could be delayed as Theresa May scrambles to form a government.

Before the shock result, talks on the “divorce bill” and EU citizens’ rights were expected to start a week on Monday.

October 2017 was the initial target set to move on to future UK-EU relations such as trade, but this could also be affected.

Michel Barnier, EU chief negotiator, has said that the talks must be over by October 2018, for time to ratify the deal.

Britain would leave the EU in March 2019.
