Elephant kills Buddhist monk

An elephant killed a monk during a Buddhist procession in the coastal town of Kochchikade, 26 miles north of the Sri Lankan capital Colombo, on Sunday.

One of three colourfully decorated elephants taking part in the procession went on a rampage and attacked the 25-year-old monk, who died in hospital the following day, a police spokesman said.
