Hit the wall
Craftsmen take a rest while restoring one of the most treacherous stretches of the Great Wall of China. The 12-mile Jiankou section, about 50 miles north of Beijing, is known for its perilous ridges and slopes. So steep are the paths to this part of the wall that bricklayers have to be supplied with materials carried by pack mules. The work, which is being performed with basic hand tools, has been going on since 2005.
