Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump last night for­mally nom­i­nated Woody John­son, the owner of the New York Jets Amer­i­can foot­ball team, as US ambassador to Bri­tain. Mr John­son, 70, will need Se­nate ap­proval be­fore he can take up the key post. Mr Trump had said in Jan­uary that the bil­lion­aire was “go­ing to [the Court of ] St James’s”.
