The first Darren

-

Darren Jones has declared he is the “first ever Darren” elected to the House of Commons. We congratulate him. The Darrens have not yet inherited the Earth, but in the years since Darren Mcgavin first appeared in the American series Riverboat in 1959, they have grown in prominence, notably in the sporting world (Clarke, Anderton, and Gough, in golf, football, and cricket). If it is a breakthrough to have a Darren in the House, let us remember that a Wayne has sat there since 2001. The Commons already has its Sharon and Tracey, its Thelma and Louise, its Tulip and its Amber. Now the Mims on the Conservative benches is joined by a Bim. In the future, no doubt, a seat on one side or the other of the aisle in our elected chamber will be taken by a little Tyrion or Daenerys today bawling in a supermarket aisle.
