No-cash Cowes

-

SIR – Cowes on the Isle of Wight already has no bank (Letters, June 28). Neither does it have a post office in the town itself. Over the last bank holiday weekend one of its ATMS was out of order and the other was out of cash.

Cowes hosts large regattas, the largest being the Round the Island race tomorrow and Cowes week at the beginning of August. It is beyond belief that even the four ATMS now available will cope with the number of people in the town. Maggie Hodd

SIR – The bank that was near us at the time, Barclays in Reigate, informed us that our accounts were being transferred to Crawley, south of Gatwick, that all of our account numbers would be changed, and that this was “for our convenience”.

For our even further convenience, we changed to another Reigate bank. Alec Logan

SIR – The Natwest branch on Alderney has just closed. Our next closest is at St Peter Port, Guernsey, 20 nautical miles away. Anyone for a swim? Sue Abel
