Murder suspect unfit to stand trial, court told
A murder suspect was deemed unfit to stand trial by a judge after disputing a stabbing happened on “a sunny day”.
Joseph Tripp, 33, allegedly bought a £5 carving knife and stabbed grandfather Derek Mcallister to death minutes after a petty row in a betting shop in East Finchley, north London.
Mr Mcallister, 54, suffered severe injuries in the attack on Dec 30 2015, and spent two weeks in a critical condition before life support was withdrawn. In court, Mr Tripp said: “… the prosecutor seems to be adding words to [the evidence] like ‘it’s a lovely sunny day’.” Jurors will have to decide on the case in his absence.
