Root races to 184 on his debut as skipper

Joe Root scored an unbeaten 184 in his debut Test as England captain at Lord’s yesterday. England won the toss and chose to bat, but lost two quick wickets before Root came to the crease at 17-2. The slump did not stop there, with the hosts reeling at 74-4, before their 26-year-old captain steadied the ship, first with Ben Stokes and then with Moeen Ali. England closed in a much healthier position, on 357-5.
