‘Cliff-edge’ Brexit fears
SIR – What is the basis for the assertion by Carolyn Fairbairn, the directorgeneral of the CBI, that it will be “impossible” to conclude a deal by the deadline for Brexit negotiations (report, July 7)? As this has never been done before, how can she know?
Admittedly, given the way the CBI is carrying on, along with the other individuals and groups hell-bent on frustrating this process, it will be a miracle if we ever achieve an outcome. Despite optimistic beginnings, I don’t believe we will leave the EU: not, that is, until it collapses under the weight of its own antidemocratic exploitation of member states.
If it’s a “cliff edge” that people fear, then Brexit will be as nothing compared to that event. Paul Barrow
