The Pin RADIO 4, 6.30PM

The first of two Cantabrigian comedy capers today come via a thoroughly meta sketch duo comprising Ben Ashenden and Alex Owen, whose comedy is relentlessly self-referential. They’ve been promoted from late-night 15-minute outings on Radio 4 to a series of four half-hour episodes in the prime comedy slot, so expectations are high. David Walliams and Ben Stiller are both apparently fans of the pair, with Walliams describing them as “the most exciting new comedy duo working today”. The next Mitchell and Webb? Wait and see. Daphne Sounds Expensive RADIO 4, 11.00PM

 Jason Forbes, Phil Wang and George Fouracres return with a second series of their surreal sketch show, which is soundtracked by a live nine-piece band and opera singer Willard White. In this first episode they host a charity gala in Wolverhampton. All seems to be going swimmingly before George makes a shocking confession. The fact that both this group and The Pin consist entirely of male Cambridge graduates, prove that not much has changed at Radio 4 since the heyday of Monty Python – but the jokes and the formats are fresh and fun.
