Proms begin behind anti-terror barriers

- By Ben Farmer

ANTI-TERRORISM security barriers have been put up outside the Royal Albert Hall to protect crowds queuing for the Proms, which began last night.

The 146-year-old venue became the latest London landmark to be given concrete and steel barriers ahead of the annual concert season.

Ploughing a vehicle into crowds has become a favoured attack method of terrorists. Propaganda by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group has called on supporters to adopt the tactic, which was used on Westminster and London Bridges and also in Berlin and Nice.

A statement from the hall said there was “an increased focus on security this year and we have worked closely with the Proms and police services to put in reasonable measures in order to provide a safe and enjoyable festival.”
