The European Youth Bridge Teams Championsh­ips in Samorin, Slovakia have ended with England securing two bronze medals, writes Julian Pottage, Bridge Correspond­ent.

The England U26 women’s team of Yvonne Wiseman, Alex Birchall, Olivia Bailey, Siyu Ren, Hanna Tuus, Ewa Wieczorek, Sally Brock (npc), Bryony Youngs (coach) finished in third place behind the Netherland­s and Poland.

The England U21 team of Ben Norton, Liam Sanderson, Daniel Winter, Sam Behrens, Kripa Panchagnul­a, Jonathan Clark, Michael Byrne (npc), Bryony Youngs (coach) came third behind Sweden and Israel.

The England U26 open team, by finishing sixth, join them and the England U16 team in qualifying for the World Youth championsh­ips in China in 2018.

The Scotland U26 open team finished in 16th place with a score of 268.02 from 27 matches while the Ireland U26 team finished 24th with a score of 173.98.

Finally, the Ireland U21 team came 17th in their event.
