John Lewis lifted by summer sale

John Lewis department store sales were up 4pc last week, on a year-on-year basis, in what marked the last week of its summer clearance event. Home technology and electricals performed the strongest out of its departments, while furniture and flooring sales rose 5.8pc. Fashion sales, though, were only up 1pc in the period, despite solid demand for casual menswear.
