Canned foods replaced by pots and pouches
Baked beans in tins and other canned foods are falling out of favour as Britons increasingly switch to buying their favourite products in plastic pots and pouches instead, according to a report.
The research shows that sales of popular tinned foods have slumped by more than £1million a week in the past year as demand is hit by the growing popularity of more convenient containers.
But the biggest impact has been felt by famous-name brands which have suffered heavy losses as shoppers save money by snapping up cheaper own-brand products. Data from Kantar Worldpanel shows that the overall canned and ambient market has fallen by £58.4million (2.6 per cent) in the past year to under £2.2 billion.
