Meddlesome clergy
SIR – Senior clergy should be publicly advancing the cause of Christianity and its principles.
Instead the Archbishop of Canterbury and his colleagues dilate upon Brexit and other political matters. Is this not a dereliction of duty?

SIR – MPS have called on the Archbishop of Canterbury to stay out of EU negotiations (report, August 1).
I am tempted to ask why he should, especially since many politicians don’t seem to hold back from commenting on Church matters – a recent example being Justine Greening (“Greening tells the Church to ‘keep up’ on gay marriage”, report, July 24).
