The gadgets have become popular with youngsters and were found to be readily available to purchase on ebay.

The palm-sized spinners consist of a ball bearing that sits in a threepronged plastic device that can be flicked and spun.

Some of the designs on sale in the UK have raised safety fears, with a number failing tests after they were found to be capable of damaging eyes and puncturing the skin.
