Country car parks blocked to deter reservoir doggers

- By Daily Telegraph Reporters

CONCRETE barricades have been installed at a national park beauty spot to stop late-night sexual encounters.

Local residents welcomed the “dogging blocks” in an area notorious for the nocturnal activity, but some nature lovers complained the barriers have ruined the idyllic waterside location.

Llwyn Onn Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons National Park is popular with “doggers”: people in cars who like to attract voyeurs while having sex.

Welsh Water, which owns the land, has spent £50,000 blocking two car parks alongside the reservoir. A spokesman said: “We have been carrying out work following complaints regarding antisocial behaviour in the area.”

A workman at the site said: “People living nearby have had enough. It is worse at this time of year because of the warmer nights.”

The car parks, one now filled in, the other fitted with a lockable gate, have been used by dog walkers, fishermen and sightseers for generations.

Sandra Davies, of Merthyr Valley Ramblers, said: “It seems a bit heavy handed and unfair on genuine country lovers using the National Park. They’ve spent a lot of money, but doggers will just move to other locations in the area.”
