Day 4 MONDAY AUG 7

Brits to watch

Laura Muir (below) has been on the fringes of the global elite for some time, but the last 12 months have seen her take a serious step up. A host of British and European records were followed by double gold at the European Indoors Championships this winter and she will be hoping to win a medal in the 1500m final. Andrew Pozzi also has podium aspirations in the 110m hurdles after finally bringing an end to his wretched series of foot injuries, while Sophie Hitchon will, hopefully, bid to follow her bronze at the Rio Olympics in the hammer final with another medal.

Foreign star

Omar Mcleod. The reigning Olympic 110m hurdles champion has stepped up another gear this year, with five of the seven fastest times in the world. He clocked a personal best 12.90sec to win the Jamaican trials last month and now has his sights set on breaking Aries Merritt’s world record time of 12.80sec.

Don’t-miss event

Women’s 1500m. This is one of the most competitive events of the championships. Kenyan Faith Kipyegon Ethiopia’s and Genzebe Dibaba – last year’s Olympic gold and silver medallists – head the field, with Sifan Hassan and Laura Muir vastly improved this year. And what can Olympic 800m champion Caster Semenya deliver over the longer distance?
