Day 9 SATURDAY AUG 12

-

Brits to watch

The British men’s 4x100m travails are all too familiar, having failed to make a global podium since 2009. They will aim to put an end to that losing streak in Saturday’s final. The women’s 4x100m quartet made history with Olympic bronze last summer and stand a decent chance of another medal, although Dina Asher-smith’s injury means they appear weaker than they did in Rio. A more certain bet to make the podium is Mo Farah, who is favourite to defend his 5,000m title. Katarina Johnsonthompson has the ability to win a high jump medal at her best, while Tiffany Porter should be in the 100m hurdles final.

Foreign star

Kendra Harrison (below). Having suffered disaster at the US Olympic trials and failed to qualify for Rio 2016, Harrison has displayed remarkable consistency in the 100m hurdles this campaign. She has already run below 12.50sec three times and last month came within a whisker of the world record she set inside the London Stadium last summer.

Don’t-miss event

Men’s 4x100m. The race that looks certain to be Usain Bolt’s final turn on the track offers him the chance to bow out with another title. The Jamaicans have topped the podium on the last four occasions and will face their rivals from America. The GB team are hoping to end their bleak run on the big stage.
