Prom 45 is the second Mahler concert of this year’s season. First performed in 1895, Symphony No2 in C minor (Resurrection) is a work of faith, mortality, resurrection and the beauty of the afterlife, on a huge scale that took the composer six years to complete. It’s performed here by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under its chief conductor Sakari Oramo. They are joined by two soloists, the British operatic soprano Elizabeth Watts and Austrian mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Kulman, along with the BBC Symphony Chorus and The Bach Choir.
