Drama: Life Drawing

RADIO 4, 1.45PM

Each afternoon this week, political cartoonist Martin Rowson invites a public figure to sit for him, and he interviews them as he draws them. Today’s gleefully frisson-laden instalment features former Chancellor turned newspaper editor George Osborne, who has been the subject of many an unkind political cartoon in his time, and is a rather good sport about it all. Also this week Rowson turns his pen to illustrator Ralph Steadman and poet John Cooper Clarke, with the resulting pictures available on the BBC website.

Monkman and Seagull’s Polymathic Adventure

RADIO 4, 8.30PM

Eric Monkman and Bobby Seagul shot to fame (well, fame in certain circles, anyway) as entertaining team captains on University

Challenge. Their goodnatured rivalry and passionate way of answering tricksy questions on a broad range of subjects endeared them to the nation, and has also now landed them a Radio 4 programme about the troubles of being a polymath. They turn to older, wiser self-declared polymath Stephen Fry for advice, though they are perfectly lovely company in themselves.
