Power dispute in Angolan presidential elections

Joao Lourenco, the Angolan ruling party’s presidential candidate, said yesterday he would have all the power if elected, apparently dismissing concerns over the continued influence of Jose Eduardo dos Santos, 74, the outgoing president.

Mr Dos Santos is ending 38 years as head of state, but it is reported he plans to retain a key power base in controlling the nation.
