Village has its Grade II listed phone box stolen
Police have appealed for witnesses after a red phone box weighing three quarters of a ton was stolen in a Suffolk village. The cast-iron “K6” kiosk was hoisted out of the ground where it had stood for 40 years.
The Grade Ii-listed box was sited next to a row of brick and flint late 17th-century cottages on the Duke of Grafton’s Euston estate in Suffolk. It was awarded listed status in 1989.
Councillor Andrew Smith said: “It’s just nibbling away at our heritage. It’s quite disappointing because they are quite iconic, specially in a village.”
Resident Dennis Lambert, 70, said: “It’s like you can’t have anything today, even if it is bolted down.”
