Jewellery raiders smash hole in wall to bag £1.8m haul
♦ Jewellery thieves smashed their way through the wall of a shop before making off with items valued at £1.8million. Three men used a sledgehammer and crowbar to break into Joyalukkas jewellers in Forest Gate, east London, in the earlymorning raid on Monday, spending more than three hours looting gold and diamonds from the store.
CCTV footage released by Scotland Yard yesterday shows two men in the shop, one sprawled on his front as he pulled jewellery out of drawers and stuffed it into a rucksack.
“This was a meticulously planned and audacious raid,” said Det Ch Insp Andy Pallett, of Newham CID. “While we think it only took the suspects around 20 minutes to make the hole, it must have been noisy work.”
