Teenagers killed father by throwing lit flare into his car

♦ Two teenagers have been jailed for killing a father by throwing a lit marine flare into his car “for fun” as he slept inside. Keani Hobbs, 18, and a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named were found guilty of the manslaughter of Vilson Meshi at Chelmsford Crown Court. Mr Meshi, 31, from Manchester, had parked his Audi in Basildon, Essex, in February 2016 to sleep overnight before seeing his three children the next day. Judge Patricia Lynch jailed Hobbs for nine years and the boy for six years. Hobbs, from Pitsea, Essex, and the 16-year-old, from London, were also convicted of the theft of flares from a docked boat.
