WORLD SERVICE, 11.30AM

What’s the best way to spend $100million to fix one huge problem in the world? That’s the challenge laid down by the Macarthur Foundation in Chicago, distributors of the “genius grant”). They created the 100&Change competition to inspire solutions for creeping disasters facing the world that will make the most difference to people’s lives. But what deserves the money? This programme considers the eight shortlisted projects, which aim to tackle issues from disease to the refugee crisis. BBC Proms 2017 RADIO 3, 10.15PM

 Prom 62 brings some welcome diversity to the classical music world, as Europe’s first professional majority black and minority ethnic (BME) orchestra, Chineke!, make their Proms debut. Tonight, they perform a glitteringly varied programme which takes in Dvořák, Handel, Rimskykorsakov and a new work by young British composer Hannah Kendal, inspired by the poet Lemn Sissay’s energetic poem, The Spark Catchers. The soloist is cellist Sheku Kannehmason, the winner of the 2016 BBC Young Musician competition.
