‘Full-fibre’ broadband on trial in six areas
Businesses, schools and hospitals will be the first to try out “full-fibre” network technology as part of a government trial.
Six areas in the UK are to be part of a £10million broadband trial, seeing high-speed cables attached directly to premises, that provides data at speeds approaching one gigabit per second.
Currently, most fibre services in the UK connect the fast cables to roadside cabinets and then rely on older, slower copper for the final link to homes and other buildings. The pilots will be run in Aberdeenshire, West Sussex, Coventry, Warwickshire, Bristol, West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.
