Power to your kettle
SIR – Dr Brian Wareing (Letters, September 2) has failed to understand the reasoning behind limiting the power ratings of kettles and vacuum cleaners.
It is not the intention to save electricity, but rather to reduce peak demand. The latter is critical to the entire energy policy and is not as daft as it may first appear. Ten million kettles each using one kilowatt less between 5pm and 7pm is a significant saving in peak demand. V T Evenson
