False sex accusers

-

SIR – I can think of no publication more in the public interest than a full, unredacted disclosure of the rationale, justification, investigation and compensation behind the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Midland (“Yard pays out for VIP raids”, report, September 2).

Gagging clauses attached to compensation payments are wholly inappropriate when the huge cost of this failed and unjustified exercise is to be borne by the public purse. David Blackwell

SIR – I am left wondering how “Nick”, the false accuser of Field Marshal Lord Bramall and Lord Brittan, is still able to remain unidentified. Nick received £50,000 from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. Does anonymity come with that? Richard Ashworth
