Demand for mobiles to be disabled for driving

-

Mobile phones must have a “driving mode” to disable them inside the car, road groups have demanded.

The charity Brake, and Be Phone Smart, a campaign by the RAC, are calling on the industry to include an “opt out” setting, blocking calls, messages and notifications.

They say the technology is urgently needed to tackle “the needless deaths and serious injuries caused by drivers using handheld mobile phones”. The group has written to Android, Microsoft and the GSMA (Groupe Spéciale Mobile Association), in an attempt to have the technology rolled out.
