Soap slips off shelves

SIR – As a lifelong user of bar soap, I am getting concerned about its inexorable disappearance from the shelves in supermarkets and chemists.

Recently I learnt that “Shield” soap had been discontinued. Pears Soap and Wright’s Coal Tar Soap are not what they used to be and will probably also disappear. Surely I am not alone in disliking the squidgy liquid shower soap bottles?
