Public sector rewards
SIR – It is clearly some time since Gordon Black (Letters, September 15) worked in the public sector.
The part of the Civil Service that I have worked in for 30 years hasn’t had automatic increments for at least 25 of them.
In respect of an annual 1 per cent pay rise, I accept that my gross pay might have gone up – but, with the Government’s increased pension contributions and other income tax and National Insurance changes, my net pay is now£2 per month less than it was in June 2010.
I leave it to Mr Black to decide whether that amounts to mistreatment or not. Richard Parkes
