Smiths builds ‘digital forges’ to pioneer tech

Smiths Group is trying to attract programmers who “might otherwise go to Google or Facebook” to help it develop equipment for hospitals and airports, as it launches research hubs, named “digital forges”. “They will be doing some good rather than programming the next Angry Birds,” said Andrew Reynolds Smith, its chief executive.
