Trial of sacked PM begins in anti-corruption court
Nawaz Sharif, the sacked Pakistani prime minister, appeared before an anti-corruption court yesterday in Islamabad, vowing to fight the allegations against him and his family as proceedings began in a trial that could decide whether he faces imprisonment.
The Supreme Court ended Sharif ’s tenure as prime minister in July, after the Panama Papers leak, which sparked a media frenzy over the lavish lifestyles and London property portfolio of the Sharif dynasty.
