My daughter was mugged at knife point

Thongs are looking up: TV presenter Davina Mccall joked on Instagram that she was growing old ‘disgracefully’ ahead of her 50th birthday

-

Are you sitting comfortably? Then get up! Forty squats please, and then we’ll talk about Davina. Or rather that mesmerising photo of Davina’s derrière.

I keep staring at it and glaring at it. My husband gave it a quick once-over, nodded like a truffle connoisseur surveying the Périgord harvest, then lost interest.

For my part, I’m trying to analyse why I’m irritated yet impressed and also a bit sad when I look at the picture, taken on a girls’ break in France to celebrate her 50th birthday.

Davina looks amazing, make no mistake. Her Instagrammed behind is unimpeachably peachy. But it’s also smug.

She merrily captioned it with an acknowledgement that she’s deliberately showing off because she’s so chuffed with her body.

Funny among friends maybe, but kinda weird to share with 680,000 followers.

I’ve met Davina and she’s genuinely nice. She has also worked damn hard to achieve that shape, and an entire fitness empire rests on her fabulous physique.

When she’s snapped in skimpy gym wear I don’t get all aerated, because that’s her work.

Davina’s on-screen USP is her upfront likeability and empathetic warmth. Posting an intimate look-at-me-in-athong picture simply hits a bum note.
