Malala starts at Oxford five years after shooting
Malala Yousafzai started her studies at Oxford University, five years to the day that she was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girls’ education.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate, 20, tweeted yesterday: “Five years ago, I was shot in an attempt to stop me from speaking out for girls’ education. Today, I attend my first lectures at Oxford.”
Malala was shot in the head on a school bus in Swat Valley in northwest Pakistan on Oct 9 2012. She was flown to the UK for treatment, and after her recovery finished her studies at a school in Birmingham.
She has updated her fans on Twitter before, announcing that she received the grades needed to study at Oxford.
